maybe last week will keep its place on the calendar of November
stay separated in time by a Monday and a Sunday
distant memory, forever.
maybe your heart will be contained
between an effort and a mistake you are too far into making.
maybe i will never shift from indifference
and this will all stay nameless.
i love you like a child loves a tree
under it’s canopy, she finds a home and protection
and even though everyone tells her
it’s only instinct is survival;
she feeds it poetry
and stories
she hears the heartbeat underneath it’s tough skin
she distinguishes the voice from the wind that carries it
this isn’t about potential
this is about being sure of what is already there.

I miss card catalogs. I’m so old.. I remember when I was in grade school, they had an instructional class (or two) on how to use the card catalog. I refused to pay attention telling my teacher it was more of an adventure to look through the stacks or pull a random card and try to find the book it was attached to.
Yep. I was always a rebel.

Claude Levi-Strauss, French anthropologist, dies at 100.
Yesterdays news, I know, but his books really made an impact on my life. Most of you have probably never heard of him but being I was a anthropology/religion major his studies were of great interest to me. He said his life’s work was “an attempt to show that there are laws of mythical thinking as strict and rigorous as you would find in the natural sciences.” He was an amazing man with an equally amazing mind.
